An introduction to loss, grief and bereavement is hosted by Child Bereavement UK and Child Bereavement UK/Scotland.  It is being held on Tuesday 19th March from 10am – 4pm at Peace Hospice Care, Peace Drive, WD17 3PH.

Deepen your understanding of bereavement and your skills in bereavement support for parents and children facing loss.

An introductory workshop suitable for individuals from all professions who would like to develop their knowledge and skills in bereavement.

Learning outcomes:

– Gain a deeper understanding of loss, grief and bereavement
– Gain insight from listening to grieving families’ needs
– Appreciate the importance of self-awareness in supporting others
– Relate theories of loss to our own and others’ experiences
– Identify approaches for telephone, individual and group support
– Gain an understanding of the importance of endings and what needs to be considered when ending the supportive relationship
– Recognise the importance of looking after ourselves and and identify ways of supporting ourselves
– Gain information about Child Bereavement UK, other similar support organisations and resources available.

Hertfordshire Normandy Veterans wanted for Voyage of Remembrance

 

To mark the 75th anniversary of the D-Day Landings the Royal British Legion has plans to take 300 Normandy Veterans on a fully funded Voyage of Remembrance with Arena Travel.  The eligibility form must be completed and returned to Arena Travel by Monday 4 March.

The voyage will take veterans who helped liberate France during the Second World War to a series of commemorative events on both sides of the channel, at no cost to themselves.

The journey is being funded by the Royal British Legion’s LIBOR grant in conjunction with the Ministry of Defence and Arena Travel.

Priority will be given to veterans who participated in the D-Day Landings, with the remaining spaces allocated to Normandy Veterans via a ballot.  Each veteran will be able to bring one carer who will also be fully funded.

The Boudicca, a 28,000 tonne ship with 462 rooms and the capacity to carry over 880 passengers will depart from Dover on 2 June, 2019.

The trip will firstly take in the commemorative events in Portsmouth and Poole before crossing the English Channel and arriving in Normandy, on 6th June, exactly 75 years after the D-Day Landings.

Could it be Sepsis? is presented by Moira Surridge, Sepsis nurse at Watford General Hospital.  Thursday 7th March at Asda community centre room 3 from 7pm – 8pm. Hosted by Stanborough Park Church.

Sepsis! The word itself sounds frightening!  But what is sepsis, how do you recognise it, signs & symptoms, are there any red flags, what’s the treatment, and equally important, what is life after sepsis like?

Come to this first talk of the year and find out more.

There’s no cost to the talk and you can park anywhere in the ASDA car park and walk thru past the checkout lines towards the cafe, you pass the cafe on your left and the centre will be around the corner on your left again.

Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea for Single Parents Watford

 

Solo Stars aka Single parents Watford are hosting a Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea at Harebreaks Community Centre for Single parents in Watford and surrounding areas, on Saturday 30th March 30 from 3pm – 5pm.

Come and enjoy a traditional afternoon tea of sandwiches, cakes, tea and coffee.  Children will be provided with their own individual plate as well.

There will be a ‘Just for You’ shop where children can pick a present for Mum and make a unique card.

This is all included in the ticket price!  Mum’s go free and each child is £2.20 via Eventbrite or £1.50 if you come to their coffee morning on the 9th March!

Coffee @ Asda is an event for Single Parents Watford hosted by Bex Boji Blossom Saturday 9th March, from 1pm – 3pm at Asda Cafe.

Solo Stars aka SIngle parents Watford is are a newly formed group in Watford for single parents & guardians.  They want to meet with you for an informal chat and coffee, so come along to Asda cafe and find out what they are all about and what events they are planning.

Watford Cycle Hub Ride

 

This Watford Cycle Hub ride is on Sunday 3rd March starting from 10am at Watford Leisure Centre, Woodside.

This suburban route sets off from Woodside Leisure Centre, and allows for a tea stop in Cassiobury Park, and passes by Leavesden Studios, the production home of Harry Potter.

This route is perfect for adults who want some quiet road practice and children who have achieved the National Standard for Bikeability Level Two who are warmly welcome to come on the ride with an accompanying parent / guardian.

It is recommend layering up for Winter rides and perhaps bring a small rucksack so you can take layers off / put on as needed.   Also bring some money for the cafe stop if you would like to buy a drink, snack or light lunch.

Please make sure your bike is in good working order before the ride, especially that the tyres are pumped up and your brakes work, and bring a spare inner tube as this makes it easier to fix a puncture if it happens, rather than getting out the rubber glue.
