Our People

The Committee is democratically elected and formed from residents of the Meriden Estate.  Anyone can become involved, as long as you are over 16 and live on the Estate, just speak to an existing committee member, pop into the office at 149 York Way during the Friday coffee morning (10am to 12noon) or contact us here.  You can learn more about how we work by reading our Constitution.  We’re always looking for people to help with various projects, from getting involved with delivering communications to helping out with the organisation of community events.

Here’s some background information on the Committee members – more will be added shortly

Stephen Moss

Chair

Most people know me as Steve.  I was born in Edgware and have lived on the Meriden since 2007.   I am a plumbing and heating engineer by trade.  I first became active in the community, when Glasshouse was involved in the consultation process for the redevelopment of the Meriden.  I was soon being asked by other residents if I could help with various issues they were having, which led to me wanting to join the MRA.  I was elected to the MRA in 2015 and have been Chair since 2017.  When I’m not working or doing MRA related activities, I play walking football, enjoy fishing and can often be found walking my dog Jeff about the estate.

Co-opted Secretary

Piyush Charola

Co-opted vice-secretary

Nitin Makharia

Treasurer

Hello Everyone,

We moved to Meriden over two years ago with our kids. While looking for houses, we found the Meriden a very quiet and peaceful place to make it our home. By profession, I am a Management Accountant / Credit Controller and have a number of clients’ portfolios.  My Dad was the chairperson of a community society when I was a kid, since then I have been interested in taking part in a community-based project and being helpful to them.  After meeting Marion during our trip to Southend on Sea, I found that I can help the community by being involved in different activities carried out by MRA.

Working from home gives me the flexibility to have more family time with two little kids and in my spare time (if any 🙂 ) I love watching multiple sports and get involved in the Health and Wellness sector!

Brenda Batchelor

Office Manager

I moved onto the Meriden estate in 1968, which is where I brought up my two children.  I worked for Watford Borough Council at the Meriden Community Centre where we had youth groups; I have enjoyed seeing all the children grow up and have families of their own.  I love living on the Meriden and wanted to be a part of something that helped the residents, so when I retired, I became a member of the Meriden Residents Association (MRA).

I have been running the Coffee Morning on behalf of the MRA at the Hub for many years and enjoy mixing with and talking to people when they come in.

Kon Hanson

Committee Member

Having lived in Abbey View for over half my life, I felt I’d like to give something back to the community and have thoroughly enjoyed working on the committee since joining in January 2018.

In my day job, I work as a financial accountant for small businesses and in my role as Treasurer I’ve loved being able to utilise my skills effectively for the benefit of the group. What I probably enjoy more is being able to talk to the community and hear different perspectives on local issues.

In my spare time, I like going to gigs, watching Watford FC and poorly participating in sports!
