Toddler Tales is the perfect step on from Baby Rhyme Time (held on Friday afternoons), with a mix of lively stories and rhymes for you and your child to join in with.  Held at North Watford Library every Tuesday from 11am - 11.30am.

Sharing stories and rhymes with your child helps to develop their listening skills, language and imagination.  Enjoy the stories together by sitting with your child during the session and then spend time browsing and borrowing from their extensive range of picture books.

The stories chosen are aimed at toddlers and pre-school children but babies are welcome too.

This activity is free; however they do welcome a voluntary contribution of £1 per family.

Creative and Sewing Clubs take place on alternate Tuesdays at Watford Central Library from 8th January 11.am - 1pm.

CreatorSpace is all about encouraging creativity in all its forms.  If you enjoy crafts, here is your chance to come and use the facilities at the library such as their digital cutter, perfect for creating consistent or intricate patterns.

Cassiobury Stay and Play is run by volunteers and offers free play time activities for babies and toddlers. It takes place in the education room at the Cassiobury Hub (above the spash pools), on Wednesday 9th January from 10am - 11.30am.

Dust off your dancing shoes and join the Peace Hospice for their very own Strictly ballroom dancing competition - starting in February.

Have you ever fancied learning the Salsa or Rumba?  Well this is your opportunity to have seven weeks of professional dance lessons, and perform at their Grand Finale in front of an audience of 500 people and their panel of expert judges!

They are looking for 20 couples (or 40 singles) to join their annual Strictly Come Hospice competition and be in for a chance to be crowned their Strictly Come Hospice Champions.

Hertfordshire Health Walks are free, local, health-focused walks happening across the county, walking is a great way to meet new people, while exploring your local area.  All volunteers are trained and insured.

Garston Health Walks happen every at 11am.  They meet at Woodside Leisure Centre, Horseshoe Lane.

This is a 'First Steps' walk, which means it is a 20 - 30 minute slow walk, flat and even ground and with no stiles.  Refreshments available nearby.  There is no need to book - just turn up.  All walks are FREE.

Getting Together clubs are wellbeing clubs for people over 55 run by Watford & Three Rivers Trust.  They have a club that meet every Friday from 11.30am - 1.30pm at Horwood Court, Hill Rise Avenue, Watford.

Each club has a regular cycle of activities with things like:

“Up & Doing” activities which include seated exercise, yoga, dancing, carpet bowls, skittles, making bird boxes and arts and crafts.

“Club choice” is for members to agree on an activity everyone will enjoy, for example a local outing, a restaurant or a favourite activity.

Also there is an opportunity to share memories about  school days, work days and families.

Their clubs are free to attend but they do charge for some services.  They will also be introducing an attendance fee for each time you attend a club. This will be £1.00

DS Achieve is pleased to offer a two-day training event (Monday January 14th and Monday March 18th - 10am) for both professionals and parents/carers.  The courses are being held at the Stanborough Centre, 609 Saint Albans Road,Watford.

The course is for professionals working with children with Down Syndrome aged 4-16 years in both mainstream and special schools. Parents/carers will find the content useful in supporting their child at home and when working alongside school staff. The training will be delivered by Helen Long, SENCO and Specialist Advisory Teacher for children with Down Syndrome.

The course content assumes that delegates will have some prior knowledge and experience of working with children with Down Syndrome.  Refresher pre-reading will be supplied.

Watford Community Housing are holding a talk on Autism on Thursday 17th January from 7pm at their offices Gateway House, 59 Clarendon Road.

You will be able to hear from a speaker from the National Autistic Society, as she tells her story about living with the condition.

Ten Weeks To Tango - A course in Argentine Tango is hosted by Tango Elegante.  Starting Thursday January 17th to Thursday March 21st at the YMCA Watford's Orbital Community Centre, Haines Way, Watford WD25 7QU.

Each class lasts an hour, and there will be up to 25 mins practice time after each class. The course is suitable for people who want to learn social dancing techniques.

Please note that this is a course not a drop in class so you need to be able to commit to most if not all 10 classes.  Please see the 10 Weeks To Tango Salon program for the course details.

It takes two to tango, so this course will be role balanced (equal leaders and followers) as far as possible.  If you do not have a partner, please book and I will match up single leaders / followers where possible, up to the course limit, and in ‘first come first served’ order.

Light Painting in Cassiobury Park is hosted by Andrew Lalchan Photography. This workshop is being held on Saturday 19th January starting at 4.30pm it will be around 3 hours long.

Meeting at the Cassiobury Park Hub which is next to the Daisy in the Park Cafe, and using the Park as their canvas after sunset, the event will start at the bandstand and work down to the waterfall.

The Peace Hospice are running an Art Bag Coffee Morning on Friday 25th January in their Creative Therapies room at the Hospice from 10.30am - 12 noon.

Art Bag is a collaborative creative project between Peace Hospice Care and the Hospice of St. Francis.

Each bag includes a simple art activity that, when completed, is returned to either hospice.  Artworks will be displayed in a collective exhibition, visually representing the unity and energy of both hospice communities.

The Random Cafe is a pop up cafe and part of The Real Junk Food Project. Diverting food destined to be thrown away.  They hold regular cafes around Watford, using food donated by food establishments that would otherwise go to landfill.

The Random Cafe is being held at the Meriden Community Centre on Saturday 26th January from 1pm-3pm 

You can enjoy a coffee or tea, cake and other snacks whilst having a chat, and then do some shopping at their food boutique table.  All of their food is available on a pay-as-you-feel basis.

This Astrophotography Workshop in Cassiobury Park is on Saturday 26th January from 4.30pm - 7pm, come along and you will be shown how to shoot the night sky and the best settings that your camera should be on.  Any DSLR camera this should work on.  With your mobile & DSLR you will be able to take photos of the planets or stars with the telescopes provided by the South West Herts Astronomical Society.

The cost is £20 per person and children are welcome but under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

• DSLR camera for starshots & Star trails
• Wide angle lens for the night sky, 300mm lens for close up of the moon
• Intervalometer wired or wireless

This event is run by an RSPB volunteer group and is a day trip to Titchwell Marsh one of the RSPB's key reserves.  The coach departs from outside Watford Central Library at  7.30am on Sunday 27th January.

There will be wintering geese, ducks, and waders including avocets.  Often there are rafts of eiders and scoters offshore, and you might catch a barn owl hunting over the fields.  You will have great views from 4 hides, and their is a hop and tea room for you to enjoy.

Sunday walk and talk are free monthly events and are informal, relaxed, inclusive and open to all, to create and provide a regular chance for people to meet others in the community in a different way; on a walk in nature.  Held monthly the next walk is Sunday 27th January and as always they meet at the Cha Cafe at 1pm for about a two hour walk.

In these Sunday walk and talk events you can enjoy exploring Cassiobury Park, local water canals, River Gade, Whippendell Forest, Nature Reserve or Grove Park Hotel grounds, whatever they have the time for.

You can pace yourself, stick around for half an hour or go all the way there is no agenda other than to enjoy conversations and other people's company and get to know each other.  At these community events, you will find yourself in a friendly atmosphere with other local people.

The Green Minds Horticultural Centre (formerly called Green Canteen) purpose is to promote positive mental, emotional and physical health for everyone involved.

Singing by Heart, the Salvation Army dementia friendly singing group is back for the first time this year on Tuesday 5th February.

This programme is carefully designed for people living with dementia and their carers but anyone is welcome to join in.

This Watford Cycle Hub ride is on Sunday 3rd March starting from 10am at Watford Leisure Centre, Woodside.

This suburban route sets off from Woodside Leisure Centre, and allows for a tea stop in Cassiobury Park, and passes by Leavesden Studios, the production home of Harry Potter.

This route is perfect for adults who want some quiet road practice and children who have achieved the National Standard for Bikeability Level Two who are warmly welcome to come on the ride with an accompanying parent / guardian.

It is recommend layering up for Winter rides and perhaps bring a small rucksack so you can take layers off / put on as needed.   Also bring some money for the cafe stop if you would like to buy a drink, snack or light lunch.

Please make sure your bike is in good working order before the ride, especially that the tyres are pumped up and your brakes work, and bring a spare inner tube as this makes it easier to fix a puncture if it happens, rather than getting out the rubber glue.

Friends of Cassiobury Park are holding two volunteering days in the park for Woodland management and litter picking on Tuesday 12th and Saturday 16th March.

On Tuesday 12th March they will be coppicing and other woodland management tasks in the Nature Reserve from 10am - 3pm.

On Saturday 16th March they will continue with the coppicing from 10am - 1pm.  Also during the morning they will do litter clearing in the park and the Nature Reserve (South side bike racks) from 10am - 12pm.  Litter pick sticks and black bags will be provided.

If you wish to volunteer for as much time as you can spare, please wear boots and gloves.  On both days please meet at the Hub at 10am.

Peace Hospice Care are holding a Chick Appeal; If you love meeting up with friends for a knit and a natter, or you knit as a hobby, this is the perfect opportunity for you to support the Peace Hospice Care and their patients and families whilst doing something you love!

Here's how you can get involved:

Knitting Chicks - Knit as many chicks as you can to donate to their Chick Appeal. Be as creative as you want, you might like to knit a hat for each chick or a scarf? They don't have to be yellow either, maybe you could knit some purple chicks - the more variety, the better!

Donating chocolate eggs (Cadbury's Creme Egg sized) - They need lots and lots of chocolate eggs to pair with our chicks. When donating please make sure they have a sell by date lasting to at least until the end of May. You will need to bring the eggs to us on a week day between 9am and 5pm.

Selling Chicks - They need lots of venues to sell our our lovely chicks- schools, businesses, shops, cafes, religious organisations and other community groups... If you can adopt a box of chicks to sell, we can give you posters, collection tins and a thank you certificate at the end.

Deadline - please let them have your knitted chicks and chocolate eggs as early as possible, and by Friday 5th April 2019 at the latest so they can start distributing them to selling stations.

Cassiobury Park are hosting a Heritage Talk at the Hub about the Cassiobury Swiss Cottage, on Saturday 23rd March 23 from 2pm - 3pm.

At this 45 minute talk you can hear about why, when and where the Swiss Cottage was built; why it disappeared; who lived there; what was found when the site was excavated by local volunteers in 2016.

There will be light refreshments afterwards and display of archaeological finds.

Meet the 'Living Room' is a great opportunity to find out about the group that will be using the Meriden Community Hub from April.  It will be held on Monday 25th March at Gateway House, 59 Clarendon Road 7pm - 8pm.

A spokesperson from The living room will come and talk in general about their charity.  The types of addictions they support and how they help people on the road to recovery.

Their vision is a future where people with the illness of addiction are able to live their lives free from an addiction to drugs, alcohol or behaviours, becoming contributing citizens in society.

The Junior Challenge is a road race (fun run) held annually by Watford Harriers at Cassiobury Park.  This year it is being held on Saturday 30th March at Cassiobury Park from 9:30am - 12.30pm.

The Living Room is an award winning addiction recovery charity with centres all over the country.  They are launching their Watford service on Monday 1st April at the Meriden Community Hub.

Come along and join this friendly creative dance group "New Connections" for the over 50s at Watford Museum. They meet every Wednesday from 10am - 11am.

This class explores gentle and fluid movement sequences that gradually increase joint mobility and muscular strength.

Each exercise can be easily adapted to suit each individual's physical ability.  All movements can be performed standing, seated or supported.

Three Rivers District Council and Abbots Langley are hosting a FREE Dawn Chorus event at Leavesden Country Park on Thursday 9th May from 5am - 7.30am.

A Bat Walk around Leavesden Country Park is being held on Friday 10th May from 8pm - 9.30pm.

Meet at Leavesden HIVE for a chat about bats and a quick refreshment before heading out into the park with the bat detectors to discover these magical mammals of the night in their habitat.

To celebrate the start of growing season and to thank residents for recycling their food and garden waste, Watford Borough Council and Veolia will be holding a compost giveaway on Saturday 11th May from 10am to 1pm (or while stocks last) at Wiggenhall Depot.

Ten tonnes of compost will be available to Watford residents who bring a proof of address (council tax or utility bill), and their own bags and shovels. Residents can help themselves to up to three bags of compost kindly donated by Agrivert - the facility where Watford’s food and garden waste is processed.

This is a self-service event and you will need to fill your own bags with compost and transport them to your car, so bring someone along with you to help if needed.

The entrance and the car park are expected to get very busy so please be prepared to wait and be considerate to other vehicles and pedestrians around you.

Watford Model Railway Exhibition is hosted by South West Herts Model Railway Society and is being held on Saturday 11th May at Queens' School.

Watford Football Club have a home match on Sunday 12th May against West Ham United (Kick off 3pm).  Parking restrictions will be enforced and traffic delays can be expected before and after the match.

The police will close of the section of Vicarage Road, between the junction with Fearnley Street and the junction with Harwoods Road.  This will be for a short period before and after the match.

The Rickmansworth Festival occupies a site which runs along the Grand Union Canal between Batchworth and Stockers Locks and a significant part of the Aquadrome Park.

The Festival is open from 10.30am to 10.30pm on Saturday 18th and from 10.30am to 5.30pm on Sunday 19th May.

They don't make a charge for admission - everyone's welcome! But they rely very heavily on the donations made by visitors to the Festival.

The top attraction for many is the wonderful array of canal boats from across the country - a terrific spectacle, with at least 100 craft of many types and histories moored along the towpath up to four deep.

Following the success of Watford Football Club reaching the FA Cup final, a live match screening for residents has been organised in Cassiobury Park for Saturday 18 May 2019.

The screening will start at 4pm for the build up to the match which starts at 5pm and has an estimated finish time of 6.45pm. If the game goes to extra time (and possibly penalties) then the finish time will be between 7.15pm-7.30pm.  The screens will be switched off after the medal ceremony.

Cassiobury Tennis Club will be running an open day for adults and junior players (3-18 years old) on Sunday 19th May 3pm - 6pm

Tennis is a game for everyone and through playing on smaller courts and with modified balls they hope that lots of people who might not have played before will want to come and give it a go.  The session is totally free and all equipment provided.

MINI TENNIS 3pm - 4pm - Children between 3 and 10 years old can get stuck into the world of tennis with smaller courts, nets and rackets and lower bouncing balls, Mini Tennis offers the perfect introduction to the sport, with all the fun and energy of the real thing.

During Dementia Action Week (20th - 26th May) there will be activities across Watford for people living with dementia, carers and for anyone wanting to know more.

On Monday 20th May there will be a Virtual Reality Dementia Tour Bus inside the shopping centre extension.

This will give people the opportunity to experience some of the challenges faced by people living with dementia.

The Virtual Dementia Tour will give you the opportunity to step into the shoes of someone living with Dementia and then develop an understanding to change the way we support people living with dementia.  This will enable them to stay at home longer and improve their care. Scary, isolating and confusing, this amazing experience must not be missed and will truly change the lives of those living with the disease.

There are several groups that meet every Tuesday in various locations around Watford. Below is a few that maybe of interest.

Toddler Tales meet Tuesdays at 11am - 11:30am at North Watford Library. This is a mix of lively stories and rhymes for you and your child to join in with. The stories chosen are aimed at toddlers and pre-school children but babies are welcome too.  This activity is free, however they do welcome a voluntary contribution of £1 per family.

The Salvation Army Church and Community Centre hold Tuesday clubs at their Church 376a St Albans Road, Watford.  C.A.M.E.O. Club, which starts at 11am is full of crafts, jigsaws, gardening and much more.  Lunch Club, starting at 12pm is a chance to meet each other over soup and a sweet.  Over 60's Club, is full of all sorts of activities for all sorts of people and starts at 1pm.

Creative Club and the Sewing Club take place on alternate Tuesdays at Watford Central Library from 11am - 1pm.  open to all so join them and share your creations, tips and tricks.

Singing by heart sessions are held the first Tuesday of each month at The Salvation Army Church and Community Centre.   from 1pm - 2pm and the cost is £1.50 per person.  This programme is carefully designed for people living with dementia and their carers but anyone is welcome to join in.

Baby rhyme time are a fun half hour session of songs and rhymes suitable for babies and toddlers of all ages.  Every Friday at 14:15 - 14:45 North Watford Library.  All parents, carers and their babies are welcome to join in and there is no need to book in advance.  This activity is free; however they do welcome a voluntary contribution of £1 per family.

A pampering day for people living with dementia and their carers will be held at the Intu Watford Shopping Centre on Friday 24th May, from 10am - 4pm as part of the Dementia Action Week.

These events are informal and relaxed, inclusive and open to all, created to provide a regular chance for people to meet others in the community in a different way; on a walk in nature.

Watford Gymnastics Club are now taking bookings for their May Holiday Camp;  May Half term Tuesday 28th May - Friday 31st May from 10am - 2pm. 

These sessions are for members and non-members alike.  The session is for children in reception and above.  Holiday sessions are a great time to learn new skills and have more time on each apparatus.  Additionally to this the children will play games and have time for free play.

Please make sure your child brings a light lunch and is wearing comfortable sports clothing.

The gymnastics takes place in the sports hall on the first floor of the YMCA building.  The best place to park is in Sutton Car Park and walk over.

Cassiobury Park are hosting a Crafty History: Victorian Toy (spinning disc) event on Tuesday 28th May from 10.30am - 11.30am.  You will be able to create a Victorian toy Thaumatrope (spinning disc) that would have been played by children at Cassiobury House.

This toy displays an optical illusion when rapidly rotated. Children must be accompanied by an adult, suitable for 5-12 years.

Bee Talk is hosted by Little Cassiobury CIC (Community Interest Company) on Saturday 1st June from 10am - 12pm at Cheslyn Gardens.  The interesting topic this year as spring has burst forth will be 'a year in the life of a bee keeper.'

All you need is a sense of rhythm and tone, and an ability to grasp the fundamentals of mathematical permutations.

You will be a member of a really friendly group of people and be part of an essentially English tradition which is well known and practised all over the world.

It’s never too late to introduce your child to a healthier way of eating. Find out what healthy eating means for your child, and how it can impact their health now, and as they grow.

Reminiscence and activity sessions for people living with dementia and their carers are hosted by Herts Disability Sports Foundation, every Friday from 1pm - 2.45pm at Holywell Community Centre.

Spend time drinking tea and eating biscuits while you chat, and in between try out some low level physical activity.

All activities will be guided by the people in the group, so for example if there is an interest in cricket, tennis, cooking or cycling, they will make the sessions as relevant as possible.

You can enjoy a coffee or tea, cake and other snacks whilst having a chat, and then do some shopping at their food boutique table.  All of their food is available on a pay-as-you-feel basis.

First Aid - for parents and carers is a two hour introduction to First Aid on Saturday 8th June from 1pm - 3pm at Berrygrove Family Centre, Cow Lane.  This session will focus on baby and child resuscitation, treating head injuries, choking and burns.  Parents to be are welcome.  Led by an experienced First Aid Trainer at a cost of £20

Peace Hospice Care Watford Support Group present 'Music in the Park'!  Grab your picnic blanket and head down to Cassiobury Park on Sunday 9th June from 12pm -3pm for this free event.

The team will kindly be raising money for the Hospice and the Watford Renal Unit at Watford General Hospital.

Sunday Walk & Talk is hosted by Link4Growth District & South West Herts.  Meet them at the Cha Cafe on Sunday 9th June at 1pm - 3pm, and you enjoy the adventure from there. You can pace yourself, stick around for half an hour or finish the walk.

These events are informal and relaxed, inclusive and open to all, created to provide a regular chance for people to meet others in the community in a different way; on a walk in nature.

Exploring Cassiobury Park, local water canals, River Gade, Whippendell Forest, Nature Reserve or Grove Park Hotel grounds, whatever they have the time for.

No agenda other than to enjoy conversations and other people's company and get to know each other. At these community events, you'll find yourself in a friendly atmosphere with other local people.

Bumps and Babies is hosted by the National Childbirth Trust, (NCT) their next event is on Monday 10th June from 1pm - 3pm at Watford Rugby Club, Radlett Road, WD24 4LL

Come for a chat with other parents, a drink and home made cake.  Parents-to-be and those with babies up to 18 months are welcome.

Take a guided Photo walk in Cassiobury Park nature reserve led by Vicky D'Souza (Cassiobury Park Hub) & Andrew Lalchan (local photographer), they will be exploring summer in the woods, Wednesday 12th June from 11am - 1.30pm.

This walk offers opportunities to take photos of nature and Andrew will be on hand to provide the best advise on taking photographs with your camera. There should be quite a few dragonflies and damselfly insects (similar to dragonflies) to photograph.

They will meet at the Cassiobury Park Hub which is near the paddling pool. Please note - reduced parking spaces at Gade Avenue car park due to drainage works.

Inclusive Dance welcome all, no matter what age,ability or disability. Both sessions are open to everybody with a focus on exploring and developing individual creativity and physical potential.

Monday & Friday (term time only) at the Meriden Community Centre from 11am - 12pm on both days.

Monday is more group dance and a very social group so it’s a good opportunity to socialise and make new friends as they are a very friendly bunch, the dance is aimed for all and is adapted for all who attend.

Friday sessions are operated with Watford Disability club and the Saracens. Participants will have the opportunity to experience dance, football and rugby or if they want they can choose their favourite subject. They are both physical and fun, again all ages and ability welcome.

One of the best things about dancing is that while you’re having fun moving to music and meeting new people, you’re getting all the health benefits of a good workout.

National Care Home Open Day - Art in Care is on Friday 28th June from 2pm - 5pm at the Chase Care Centre.

They will be displaying the wonderful art and crafts their residents have created this year.  There will be a 'finger painting' workshop on the day and prizes for the most creative person.

This D-Day 75th Anniversary Concert is on Saturday 29th June at The Alban Arena, Civic Centre, St Albans.

Adoramus Choir return to the Alban Arena with a concert to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of D-Day.

The concert will include the choral themes to The Longest Day and the Band of Brothers, the Hymn for the Fallen by John Williams from Saving Private Ryan, the Agincourt song from Walton’s Henry V suite, culminating in Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March No.4

The concert will be introduced by the RAF Chaplain, Wing Commander Revd. Ian Brown who will lend his insights to the occasion and Adoramus will be joined by the Beniaminek Polish Children’s Choir and the Pope Paul Catholic Primary School Choir.

St Mary's is always on the lookout for suitable candidates to learn this fascinating art and join the band.  Practices are held on Tuesdays at 7.30pm.

All you need is a sense of rhythm and tone, and an ability to grasp the fundamentals of mathematical permutations.

Officers from the Watford Outer Safer Neighbourhood Team will be holding a free Plate Safe event, Saturday 6th July from 10am - 1.30pm at Tesco Extra Car Park.

Drivers will be able to get anti-tamper screws fitted to their vehicle’s number plates in order to help prevent them from being stolen and discuss vehicle security.

Theft of car number plates can be hugely inconvenient and they can subsequently be used by criminals for offences such as bilking (theft of petrol) or evading speed camera fines.
