Supermarket chains have revealed new rules and opening times for shoppers across the country. All supermarkets reduced their opening hours when the Coronavirus lock-down was introduced last month.

Asda which used to open 24 hours, started closing at 8pm. Stores will now be open Monday - Saturday 8am - 10pm. Normal Sunday trading hours will remain the same.

Aldi opening hours have now been extended until 10pm at almost all stores.

Tesco has introduced a one-way system for customers.

Morrisons has changed its opening hours. All stores will now be open from 7am to 8pm Monday to Saturday. On Sundays, the majority of stores will open at 9am for NHS workers to shop. They will open at 9.30am for all other customers to shop normally.

Lidl has also lifted restrictions, and told customers when the best times are to shop at their stores. 8am to 11am is the busiest time, 11am until 2pm is average, and from 2pm until closing time is the quietest part of the day. The chain added that this will vary between stores.

Stuffed toys are being placed in windows to give children a fun and safe activity while walking around their neighbourhood with parents once a day.

The game is a way to entertain children in isolation and the psychological boost is real; uniting neighbourhoods and giving children an exciting, social-distancing-safe scavenger hunt activity during the lock-down.

Play-dates might be on hold, but seeking out the stuffed animals is the new bearable activity – Join the hunt!

The Queen will commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day with a televised address to the nation.

The message will form part of a series of events on 8 May marking the end of World War Two on the continent.

The monarch's pre-recorded address will be broadcast on the BBC at 21:00 - the exact moment her father, King George VI, gave a radio address 75 years ago.

Here are the revised plans due to the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak:

The Queen will send a message to the nation on Friday 8 May.

His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales will read an extract from King George VI’s diary from 8 May 1945

Members of The Royal Family, the Prime Minister and the Culture Secretary will take part in video calls with Second World War veterans

Churchill’s famous victory speech will be broadcast as part of BBC special programming

A national moment of remembrance will take place with a two minute silence as Culture Secretary calls on the public to mark the occasion at home

Second World War veterans will receive calls from NHS Volunteer Responders

Historian and broadcaster Dan Snow will host history lessons for children from Monday 4 May. At 4pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Dan will host a History Hit live on YouTube’s Timeline channel that will focus on a different aspect of the Second World War and aim to teach the public about the importance of VE Day.

The BBC will broadcast two special programmes on BBC One to mark VE 75 which will be shown at 14:45 – 15:45 and 20:00 - 21:10

People are being urged to show their support for the commemorations by placing a specially-designed image of a Second World War soldier in their windows.

There is a quiz being hosted weekly, every Thursday at the same time on Zoom with the following link. https://zoom.us/j/267678492 and everyone is welcome to join them.

Their meeting link is a repeated event, so the link they have will be the same every week. It also means it’s easy to share if there’s anyone you would like to invite to take part.

Their meeting will be open from 7.30pm. The host asks that you please sign in by 7.45pm so team allocation can be done by the time the quiz is due to start at 8pm.

You can just click on the link on the night, there’s no need to reserve a space. If you have a family team then they ask that when you sign into Zoom for the quiz, you change your screen name to include your team name in brackets eg. ‘McGoverns (the winning team)’

Teams should be no larger than 8 people. If you haven’t got a team together, and want to just turn up on the night or want to be with a variety of people throughout the weeks, then just sign in as yourself with no team name and they will randomly assign you a team.

The quiz will be competitive and will be scored. They will do this by asking that one of your team collates your answers, and at various points throughout the quiz they will be asked to privately send them through the chat function on Zoom. An explanation will be given on the night for those who are unsure how to do this.

The coming days and weeks are going to be difficult for families across the UK.  As experts in developing skills and bringing adventure to young people, The Great Indoors want to do what they can to help.

While they normally love the great outdoors, they have pulled together some inspired indoor activity ideas, to keep your kids learning new skills and having fun (and avoid hearing ‘I’m bored’ every 30 seconds)

For some great indoor ideas for children visit:

    https://www.scouts.org.uk/activities/snap-happy/

    https://www.scouts.org.uk/activities/to-foldly-go/

    https://www.scouts.org.uk/activities/changing-your-coat/

These activities were originally designed for groups meeting face-to-face, so you may have to think on your feet to make them work in the (very unique) situation we’re in. Anyone can be the person leading the game or activity, so why not let young people take charge? Instead of chatting in a real-life group, you could use the internet (safely) or talk to someone at home.

Leavesden Green Community Hub, Clarke Green, off Clarke Way, Watford WD25 0BW

Random Cafe are able to offer their mini market during the week for those who need it. They will be open on Tuesday, Thursday 10am - noon and Saturday from 10am to Noon and then 1pm till 3pm.

The times of the market will be dependent on supply and demand. They have been contacted this week by food outlets with requests for extra collections. They are now able to do these extra collections which will give them extra food to distribute to the local community.

They will put a selection of what is available that day on social media. All the produce will be split in half between the morning and afternoon sessions. This is to make it fair to all and to try and avoid large groups of people gathering.

If you know anyone who is unable to do food shopping, for any reason, and you are able to come along to pick up a food box, they will also have these available.

They will be on an order only basis, as they need time to box each one up. Please email www.randomcafewatford.com for more details or to order a box.

    PLEASE REMEMBER:

They open as a Mini Market ONLY. They will NOT be serving lunch or drinks. Please only come if you need food. Please only bring ONE bag with you.

They are deliberately operating on a skeleton volunteer team and are taking every precaution to keep themselves safe. They need you to do the same:

Please be kind and considerate to each other. Please practice rigorous hand hygiene. Please make sure you stay a safe distance away from each other.

If you have any symptoms or feel unwell please stay at home. Please leave your children at home if you can.

If you have ANY doubts please stay at home.
