Photowalk in Cassiobury Park Nature Reserve

 

A Photowalk in Cassiobury Park Nature Reserve which is hosted by Andrew Lalchan Photography and Cassiobury Park, is being held on Wednesday 15th May  from 11am – 1.30pm.

Take a guided walk through Cassiobury’s Nature Reserve and part of Whippendell Woods led by Vicky D’Souza (Cassiobury Park Hub) & Andrew Lalchan (local photographer), they will be exploring spring in the woods.

This walk offers opportunities to take nature photos and Andrew will be on hand to provide and advise.   As it’s likely to be muddy in the park, strong footwear is needed.

They will meet at the Cassiobury Park Hub which is near the paddling pool.

Getting Together Spring Canal Trip

 

Getting Together Spring Canal Trip (for the over 50’s); Monday 3rd June from 10.30am – 4pm.  This books up very quickly and there is only ten spaces left (as from 1st May) so book today to save disappointment.

Departing from the Waterways Experience at the Boat Base, Nash Mills Recreation Centre, Nash Mills Lane, Hemel Hempstead, HP3 9TE.

You will travel along the famous Grand Union canal before enjoying an on board Buffet, after lunch enjoy a sing-along on the return journey.

On the boat you could spot anything from ducks and dragonflies to kingfishers and water voles.  You can get back to nature on the canals which is one of the reasons a trip on the waterways can make you happier and healthier.

New Conncections

 

Come along and join this friendly creative dance group “New Connections” for the over 50s at Watford Museum. They meet every Wednesday from 10am – 11am.

This class explores gentle and fluid movement sequences that gradually increase joint mobility and muscular strength.

Each exercise can be easily adapted to suit each individual’s physical ability.  All movements can be performed standing, seated or supported.

More importantly tea and coffee is provided after the session, giving time to unwind and socialise.

Dawn Chorus Leavesden Country Park

 

Three Rivers District Council and Abbots Langley are hosting a FREE Dawn Chorus event at Leavesden Country Park on Thursday 9th May from 5am – 7.30am.

Enjoy the dawn chorus and learn how to identify birds by their songs and calls.  All ages welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

The Rickmansworth Festival

 

The Rickmansworth Festival occupies a site which runs along the Grand Union Canal between Batchworth and Stockers Locks and a significant part of the Aquadrome Park.

The Festival is open from 10.30am to 10.30pm on Saturday 18th and from 10.30am to 5.30pm on Sunday 19th May.

They don’t make a charge for admission – everyone’s welcome! But they rely very heavily on the donations made by visitors to the Festival.

The top attraction for many is the wonderful array of canal boats from across the country – a terrific spectacle, with at least 100 craft of many types and histories moored along the towpath up to four deep.

Some of the other highlights of the different areas of the site include:

Batchworth Lock – Boat Trip booking office and departure point; Batchworth Lock Canal Centre with books, gifts and ice creams; Batchworth Lock Eduction Centre; Café at Lock 81

 

Canal Tow Path – Displays of visiting historic working boats and decorated pleasure craft; boat tug of war; catering; boaters information point and other exhibitors.

 

Aquadrome – Trade, craft and charity stalls; main entertainment stage; Owlsworld acoustic stage; main catering area and real ale beer tent; Environment Fair; Living History displays; Fun Fair; Children’s Farm, and many other attractions.

Meet our new Contractors

 

Watford Community Housing invite you to “Meet our new contractors” on Tuesday 14th May from 5:30pm at their offices Gateway House, 59 Clarendon Road.

Come along to this drop in session at Gateway House to meet staff from their new contractor, Accuro.

They have been cleaning their buildings since Monday 1st April and will provide a grounds maintenance services from Tuesday 30th April.

James Locke, the new contract manager will be attending with staff from Watford Community Housing.


 

Bumps and Babies Group

 

The Bumps and Babies group is hosted by NCT Watford (National Childbirth Trust) and Watford Rugby Club.  They now meet at their new venue Watford Rugby Club on Radlett Road.

Come along for chat, drinks and cake on Monday 13th May from 1pm – 3pm.  All welcome with bumps or babies up to 18 months old.

This month they will be joined by Jodie from Water Babies to talk about the benefits of baby swimming.  Also Elaine, their Breastfeeding Counsellor, will be there for information and support.


 

Heritage Walk

 

Cassiobury Park are hosting a Heritage Walk on Sunday 12th May from 11am – 1pm.  Meeting point for the walk is outside the Hub on the upper paved patio.  Walk suitable for adults and families with older children.

A guided walk with a member of the SW Herts Archaeological & Historical Society, from the Cassiobury Park Hub up into Whippendell Woods.

Find out about the history of the amazing public Park of today, from prehistory to the Estate of the Earls of Essex.

Booking is essential. £2 per person.  Email cassiobury@watford.gov.uk to book your places.

Watford Model Railway Exhibition

 

Watford Model Railway Exhibition is hosted by South West Herts Model Railway Society and is being held on Saturday 11th May at Queens’ School.

There will be 24 layouts and 9 traders.

Adults £6 and Children £3

Accompanied children free! Max 2 children to 1 adult.


 

Watford Footbal Club – Match Day Parking

 

Watford Football Club have a home match on Sunday 12th May against West Ham United (Kick off 3pm).  Parking restrictions will be enforced and traffic delays can be expected before and after the match.

The police will close of the section of Vicarage Road, between the junction with Fearnley Street and the junction with Harwoods Road.  This will be for a short period before and after the match.
