Dementia Friends Information Session

 

There is a Dementia friends information session at Watford Central Library on Thursday 23rd May.  This is a  free training day to become a Dementia Friend with sessions at 10am, 11.15am and 2.30pm.

Dementia Friends is a programme for all age groups run by Alzheimer’s Society and it is the biggest ever initiative to transform the way the nation thinks, talks and acts about the condition.

Friday Groups

 

There are several groups that are held every Friday in various locations around Watford, Below is a few you maybe interested in.

Getting Together 55+ social club meet at Horwood Court, Hill Rise Avenue, from 11.30am – 1.30pm.  Hosted by W3RT, at Getting Together  there is something for everyone, exercise, arts & crafts, singing, dancing, and most importantly, friendship.

Do you fancy a game of scrabble, would you like to improve your score, then; join the friendly Scrabble Club for a game at 2pm – 5pm every Friday afternoon at the Watford Museum.  Each session costs just £1.50

Baby rhyme time are a fun half hour session of songs and rhymes suitable for babies and toddlers of all ages.  Every Friday at 14:15 – 14:45 North Watford Library.  All parents, carers and their babies are welcome to join in and there is no need to book in advance.  This activity is free; however they do welcome a voluntary contribution of £1 per family.


 

Tuesday Groups

 

There are several groups that meet every Tuesday in various locations around Watford. Below is a few that maybe of interest.

Toddler Tales meet Tuesdays at 11am – 11:30am at North Watford Library. This is a mix of lively stories and rhymes for you and your child to join in with. The stories chosen are aimed at toddlers and pre-school children but babies are welcome too.  This activity is free, however they do welcome a voluntary contribution of £1 per family.

The Salvation Army Church and Community Centre hold Tuesday clubs at their Church 376a St Albans Road, Watford.  C.A.M.E.O. Club, which starts at 11am is full of crafts, jigsaws, gardening and much more.  Lunch Club, starting at 12pm is a chance to meet each other over soup and a sweet.  Over 60’s Club, is full of all sorts of activities for all sorts of people and starts at 1pm.

Creative Club and the Sewing Club take place on alternate Tuesdays at Watford Central Library from 11am – 1pm.  open to all so join them and share your creations, tips and tricks.

Singing by heart sessions are held the first Tuesday of each month at The Salvation Army Church and Community Centre.   from 1pm – 2pm and the cost is £1.50 per person.  This programme is carefully designed for people living with dementia and their carers but anyone is welcome to join in.


 

May on the Day

 

May on the Day is a family fun afternoon to dance around the Maypole, accompanied with the Pump House Clog Morris, on Sunday 5th May 1.30pm – 4pm at Reveley Lodge.

Activities include: Bouncy Castle, Make a May Day Hat or Green Man Mask, Scavenger Hunt, Reveley’s Trebruschet, Splat the Rat, Tombola etc. and Homemade Teas.

May on the Day this year are being supported by Hertfordshire Police who will providing lots of fun things to do, including:

  • Have your fingerprints taken
  • Look round a police vehicle
  • Run past a speed board to see how fast you can go
  • Try on some goggles to realise how alcohol affects you
  • Once fingerprinted, you can have your ‘mugshot’ taken!

Meriden Residents Association – Coffee Morning

 

Every Friday the Meriden Residents Association hold a Coffee Morning at the Meriden Community Hub, 149 York Way, for all residents from 9.30am – 12pm.

Drop in for a natter and enjoy a cuppa and a cake or two.  We ask for a small donation towards refreshments.

This is a wonderful chance to make new friends or catch up with old friends in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Children’s Christmas Party & Tea and Mince Pies

Children’s Christmas Party & Tea and Mince Pies – Save the date!

We are pleased to announce that following  the success of our Children’s Christmas party last year, we will be holding another Children’s Christmas Party & Tea and Mince Pies event again this year.

The date for your diary is Saturday 7th December from 2pm – 4.30pm at the Meriden Community Centre. 

We plan as usual to have lots of activities including face painting, balloon modelling, Christmas crafts, games, lucky dip and tombola.

We will also be serving FREE tea and mince pies in the small hall from 2pm  for anyone without children, and for anyone who is in need of a bit of company.

New Hope Garden Open Day

 

New Hope’s Community Market Garden will be open on Saturday 25th May from 10:30am – 3pm.

Featuring music, storytelling, refreshments, children’s activities and, of course, plants and produce!

At 64 Rickmansworth Road, Watford, WD18 7DB and is accessed through a gate on the driveway of 62 Rickmansworth Road.

There is NO parking on the driveway of 62 Rickmansworth Road.


 

Bird Watching Walk in Cassiobury Park

 

Join a bird expert, for a stroll around Cassiobury Park’s Nature Reserve to see what birds you can find in this Bird Watching Walk in Cassiobury Park on Sunday 26th May from 10am – 12pm.

Meet outside the Cassiobury Hub (above the splash pools) on the patio, close to Daisy’s Cafe at 10am.

Bring your binoculars if you have any. Sorry no dogs allowed.


 

Virtual Reality Dementia Tour Bus

 

During Dementia Action Week (20th – 26th May) there will be activities across Watford for people living with dementia, carers and for anyone wanting to know more.

On Monday 20th May there will be a Virtual Reality Dementia Tour Bus inside the shopping centre extension.

This will give people the opportunity to experience some of the challenges faced by people living with dementia.

The Virtual Dementia Tour will give you the opportunity to step into the shoes of someone living with Dementia and then develop an understanding to change the way we support people living with dementia.  This will enable them to stay at home longer and improve their care. Scary, isolating and confusing, this amazing experience must not be missed and will truly change the lives of those living with the disease.

Cassiobury Tennis Club – Open Day

 

Cassiobury Tennis Club will be running an open day for adults and junior players (3-18 years old) on Sunday 19th May 3pm – 6pm

Tennis is a game for everyone and through playing on smaller courts and with modified balls they hope that lots of people who might not have played before will want to come and give it a go.  The session is totally free and all equipment provided.

MINI TENNIS 3pm – 4pm – Children between 3 and 10 years old can get stuck into the world of tennis with smaller courts, nets and rackets and lower bouncing balls, Mini Tennis offers the perfect introduction to the sport, with all the fun and energy of the real thing.

ADULT COACHING 4pm -5pm – Try their adult coaching taster session. Ideal for people new to the sport or who haven’t picked up a racket in a long time. You can borrow their rackets if you don’t have your own.

TENNIS XPRESS 3pm – 4pm – Adults of all abilities can sign up for free coaching sessions with a qualified coach. Within the coaching session you will learn the basics and have the opportunity to play some points. The coach will be on hand to give you tips to help you improve your game and get you feeling comfortable on court.

FREE PLAY 5pm -6pm – If you don’t fancy a coaching session why not just try out their new facilities. You can book a slot on one of the courts for free.

FAMILY TIME 5pm – 6pm – Get on court with your family and have some fun.They will provide modified balls and rackets for the younger ones and coaches will be on hand to give you some pointers if you want them.

JUNIOR 4pm – 5pm – No matter what your ability you’ll have fun on court with of junior players your age. Coaches will be on hand to offer tips to help your game and advice on how you can continue to play.
