Blood Pressure Checks

 

Watford Central Library are holding  FREE blood pressure checks on Wednesday 17th October from 11am – 5pm

There is no appointment required just drop in and wait.  It is in a public area of the library behind a screen, so probably more appropriate for adults and teenagers, but all ages are welcome.

Plant For Peace

 

Watford Interfaith Association invite you to plant bulbs and plants in the Peace Garden in Cassiobury Park on Sunday 14th October from 2pm – 4pm.

You are welcome to bring your own bulbs or plants, and there will be refreshments afterwards.

After the planting you can meet in the labyrinth and offer prayers and inspirational words for peace in our world.

Watford Pregnancy Baby and Toddler Show

 

Hosted by Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond Events and held at Westfield Community Sports Centre, Tolpits Lane, West Watford, this event is for expectant parents, new parents and parents with children under five.  It takes place on Saturday, October 20th from 10am – 1pm, and is the only Pregnancy and baby show organised by health professionals.

Entry is FREE and their will be goodie bags for the first 50 families.  You will be able purchase tea, coffee and snacks.

There will be professional speakers, local businesses, charities and other groups who all specialise in pregnancy, birth and the under five.

The aim of Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond events is to showcase services, organisations and traders to local Parents and expectant Parents.  They work alongside experts from both the Private and Public sector, charities, as well as small boutiques and larger well known brands.


 

Watford Jobs Fair

 

The Watford Jobs Fair is on Friday 26th October at Watford Football Club, Vicarage Road.  The event is between 10am and 1pm, and is Free to attend with no registration required.

The Jobs Fair is a great way to speak with potential employers face-to-face.  You can register with employers for jobs, collect info on employers, ask them questions, apply for jobs, or even have a mini interview on the day.

Toddler Tales

 

Toddler Tales is the perfect step on from Baby Rhyme Time, with a mix of lively stories and rhymes for you and your child to join in with.  Held at North Watford Library every Tuesday from 11am – 11.30am.

Sharing stories and rhymes with your child helps to develop their listening skills, language and imagination.  Enjoy the stories together by sitting with your child during the session and then spend time browsing and borrowing from their extensive range of picture books.

The stories chosen are aimed at toddlers and pre-school children but babies are welcome too.

This activity is free; however they do welcome a voluntary contribution of £1 per family.


 

Dementia Forum

 

Dementia is more prevalent across our community than ever before.  Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor, invites you to Watford’s first ever Dementia Forum event taking place on Friday 12th October, 10:00am – 11.30am at the BRE Centre at Bricket Wood. 

This forum will be a chance to bring together interested groups and start to plan how Watford could be a more Dementia Friendly Town.  This forum will also work together with individuals and organisations right across Watford to see what improvements can be made to support those living with dementia and their carers.

Gift and Craft Fayre

 

Christ Church in St. Albans Road are holding a Gift and Craft Fayre on Saturday 20th October from 11am – 3pm.  Entry is Free and their will be refreshments available.

There will be lots of stalls selling gifts and crafts, so plenty of opportunity to start Christmas shopping early!  There will also be a tombola and a raffle.

Prizes for the raffle include Vue Cinema tickets, Gambado tickets, Spa treatments, Health Club Memberships and many more.

Single Parent’s Group Meeting

 

Watford Community Housing will hold their next Single Parents’ Group Meeting on Monday 15th October from 10am – 12pm.  At the Meriden Community Centre.

You are welcome to attend with or without your child, but if you are planning on coming with your child, please bring toys or games to keep them occupied.

These FREE sessions are a great opportunity to meet like-minded single parents in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere.  Refreshments will be provided, and they will be planning their Christmas Party.

Slipper Swap Social

 

New anti-slip footwear can stop some trips, slips and falls caused by old worn out slippers and help people to stay safe and well at home.  Rickmansworth Library are hosting this free event on Tuesday 9th October from 10am – 12pm.  You will be able to pick FREE Slippers to prevent slips and trips,  and join in for a cuppa and a chat about social groups in our community.  No need to book just turn up!

This year they also want to help to reduce loneliness and social isolation which can have a huge impact on wellbeing and health.  Representatives from local organisations will be there to chat about their clubs and welcome event visitors to join.  Visitors can talk to Diabetes Foot Care, Occupational Therapists, Fire Safety and Age UK advisers.

Heritage Walk

 

Cassiobury Park are hosting a guided walk on Sunday 14th October with a member of the SW Herts Archaeological & Historical Society, from the Cassiobury Park hub up into Whippendell Woods.

You will be able to find out about the history of the amazing public park of today, from prehistory to the estate of the Earls of Essex.

The meeting point for the walk which starts at 11am is outside the Hub on the upper paved patio.  The cost is just £2 per person and the walk is suitable for adults and families with older children.
