Demolition of remaining bungalows in The Turnstones
Construction of seven new houses (C1-C7) in The Turnstones
Construction of nine new houses (B1-B9) along a new road between The Turnstones and York Way has been started ahead of the original schedule. Brick and blockwork has been completed and the first floor joists are currently being installed. Once completed the first floor brick and blockwork will commence.
Landscaping of remaining green.
Demolition of Shopping Parade

Construction of new flexicare facility and apartments (D, E1).
Demolition of bungalows
Existing bungalows in York Way and No. 1 The Turnstones to be demolished. Construction of six new bungalows (A4-A9) in York Way.
Construction of new shops and apartment blocks
Foundation works for apartment blocks F1 and F2, adjacent to Foxtree Court and Maple Court to commence at the beginning of October 2018
Enabling works to these plots have been completed.
Main construction works will commence on the 11th March 2019.
Piling and foundation works will begin with block G and then progress to block F2 and finally block F1. This will take approximately 9 weeks to complete.
Works are progressing as planned for the block F2 car park.
It is planned that the car park will be handed over for use by the residents in mid March 2019.
Completion of new shops and apartment blocks E2, E3, F1, F2 and G by March 2020
Construction of Bungalows
Construction of the first three new bungalows in York Way
Brick and blockwork to wall plate level completed.
Main roof structure completed.
Gable end brickwork under construction.
Drainage works associated with the bungalows currently being installed in York Way to the junction with The Turnstones.
Bungalows should be watertight by end of February to allow fit out works in late February/early March 2019.
Expected completion by June 2019
Random Cafe
The Random Cafe is a pop up cafe and part of The Real Junk Food Project. Diverting food destined to be thrown away. They hold regular cafes around Watford, using food donated by food establishments that would otherwise go to landfill.

On Saturday 8th September, the Random Cafe is being held at the Centrepoint Community Centre from 1pm – 3pm
You can enjoy a coffee or tea, cake and other snacks whilst having a chat, and then do some shopping at their food boutique table. All of their food is available on a pay-as-you-feel basis.

Please note that the Random Cafe is supporting Macmillan Cancer Support at their coffee morning on Saturday 22nd September. All proceeds will go to Macmillan at this event.
Watford Memory Walk in aid of Alzheimer’s Society
The Alzheimer’s Society organised a 20km, 9km and a 3.5km memory walk for Saturday 15th September. Registration has now closed
Every pound you raise will change the lives of people affected by dementia – now and in the future

All the walks start and finish at Cassiobury Park, and please note there will be a mandatory event briefing you must attend.
Walk details:
For the 20km walk you will need to arrive from 8am and the walk starts at 9am. The meeting point is the field between the children’s paddling pools and the Gade Avenue entrance.
The walk takes you through Whippendell Woods before joining the Grand Union canal path towards Rickmansworth, before looping round the Aquadrome and heading back towards Watford. The route has a mix of terrain, including compact paths, pavement and gravel. There are some muddy patches in wet weather so please wear suitable footwear. Please note this walk is not suitable for persons under 16.

For both the 9km and 3.5km walk you will need to arrive from 10am and the walk starts at 11am. The meeting point is the field between the children’s paddling pools and the Gade Avenue entrance.
The 9km walk will take you across into the ancient Whippendell Woods, home to diverse habitats. With some hills, this is not suitable for Wheelchairs.
The shorter 3.5km walk is a gentle stroll around Cassiobury Park, the short route is around tarmac paths so suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

Watford Fire Museum – Open Day
The Fire Museum is based in a purpose built building at Watford Fire Station, and they will be holding an open day on Saturday September 8th from 1pm – 4pm

You will be able to visit the only fire-related museum in Hertfordshire and see the history of fire-fighting from the early days.
There will be fire-fighters uniforms that can be tried on and fire-fighting equipment that can be handled (including early breathing apparatus sets). They also have a large photographic display of Watford Fire Brigade/fires/fire engines and the Buncefield explosion and fire of 2005.
At the open day they will also have two 19th century hand manual fire pumps, a 1896 horse-drawn steam fire pump, a 1937 Leyland pump-escape fire engine that served at St. Albans, and a 1942 Dennis trailer pump used during the Second World War.
There is no parking at the Fire Station, please use the adjacent retail car parks – remember the time limits!
Entry is free, but donations will be welcome.
