Art Resource Centre (ARC)

 

Held every Tuesday and Wednesday in the Charles Room of the Pump House, the  Art Resource Centre provides facilities for artists and non-artists alike.The sessions provide an open and creative space to share ideas and skills, with opportunities to meet other local artists, and access to an extensive art library and facilities for practical work.

Tuesdays 10am – 2pm  £4.00 per session.  This is a more relaxed art and social gathering.

Wednesdays 9.30am – 1pm  £6.00 per session.  This is for the the more serious minded artists.

You can pay on arrival, and will be given a parking permit by the organiser. Please bring your own oil paints and easels etc.

Match Day Parking

 

Watford Football Club next home match is Saturday 27th October (Kick off 3pm)  Parking restrictions will be enforced and traffic delays can be expected before and after the match.

The police will close of the section of Vicarage Road, between the junction with Fearnley Street and the junction with Harwoods Road.  This will be for a short period before and after the match.

Little Explorers – Cards Workshop

 

Join this very popular Christmas card making workshop on Friday 28th September at Rock Up, Queen’s Road, Intu Watford from 10am – 11am.

Suitable for ages 18 months to five years and using your children’s hand or footprints, you will get help to take prints and then their fabulous ideas and sparkly embellishments to create a gorgeous, personalised family Christmas card (or two).

You get to make two Christmas cards and one ‘Thank you’ card on the day.  You can then choose to have your designs professionally printed onto Glossy Christmas card.

A pack of 12 professionally printed cards is £5.50.  Please allow 6 weeks to get your packs.

Please note that there will not be any painting or craft activities besides the card making.

Random Cafe

 

The Random Cafe is a pop up cafe and part of The Real Junk Food Project. Diverting food destined to be thrown away. They hold regular cafes around Watford, using food donated by food establishments that would otherwise go to landfill.

On Saturday 22nd September, the Random Cafe is being held at the Meriden Community Centre, 1pm – 3pm 

You can enjoy a coffee or tea, cake and other snacks whilst having a chat, and then do some shopping at their food boutique table.  All of their food is available on a pay-as-you-feel basis.

This week the Random Cafe is supporting Macmillan Cancer Support at their coffee morning.   All proceeds will go to Macmillan.


 

Hertfordshire Health Walks

 

Hertfordshire Health Walks are free, local, health-focused walks happening across the county, led by qualified volunteer leaders, helping everyone get outdoors, get more active and reap the benefits.

Walks are graded between 20 – 30 minutes (First Steps) and 90 minutes (Grade 4)

Garston Health Walks –  Every Friday throughout September at 11am. They meet at Woodside Leisure Centre, Horseshoe Lane. This is a ‘First Steps’ walk, accessible by public transport with refreshments available nearby.

Other Health Walks:

Cassiobury Health Walk – Every Wednesday at 10.30am.  They meet at The Cha Cafe by the tennis courts, nr Shepherds Road.  This is  a ‘Grade 3’ moderate walk, about one hour with hills and possible stiles. (Fast pace walk)

Cassiobury Health Walk – Every Wednesday for a 11.10am start. Again meeting at The Cha Cafe, this is a slower walk about an hour in duration.

For these walks you do not need special equipment, and there is no need to book. It is recommended that you wear some suitable shoes and waterproofs, and that you bring a bottle of water.

Baby Rhyme Time

 

Baby Rhyme Times are a fun half hour session of songs and rhymes suitable for babies and toddlers of all ages.  This event is held at North Watford Library every Friday 2.15pm – 2.45pm

All parents, carers and their babies are welcome to join in and there is no need to book in advance for this free activity, however a voluntary contribution of £1 per family is appreciated.

For the comfort and safety of you and your child, numbers are limited at popular sessions.

Baby Rhyme Time is also held at Watford Central Library every Thursday at 2.15pm – 2.45pm


 

Baby and Child First Aid Courses

 

Would you know what to do in a first aid emergency to help your baby?  Book your place on the NCT Watford First Aid course taught by a Red Cross trainer.  The courses are being held at the Centrepoint Community Centre, Raphael Drive on Saturday 22nd September.

There are two options of two and half hours each, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, so there should be something to suit you.  The morning course starts at 10am, and the afternoon course starts at 1.30pm

The course covers first aid techniques for babies (0-1 years) and children (1-12 years).  It lasts for 2 1/2 hours and content includes:

• Loss of consciousness and CPR
• Choking
• Bleeding
• Burns
• High Temperatures
• Meningitis

The cost is £30 for an individual or £50 per couple.  Concession rates also available.  Please note your place is only confirmed once you have booked via the links:

Cooking Demo At The Bandstand

 

There is a cooking demonstration on Sunday 30th September at the bandstand in Cassiobury Park, from 4pm – 6pm, by The Grove’s Head Chef, Stephen Wheeler.

Come along and get inspired to grow your own produce, make friends as you are assisted by the Head Chef.

You can learn how to cook delicious gourmet meals, with simple home grown ingredients, along with a chance to swap fruit and vegetables seeds.
