Watford Footbal Club – Match Day Parking

 

Watford Football Club have a home match on Saturday 29th December (Kick off 3pm).   Parking restrictions will be enforced and traffic delays can be expected before and after the match.

The police will close of the section of Vicarage Road, between the junction with Fearnley Street and the junction with Harwoods Road.  This will be for a short period before and after the match.

Free Nordic Walking Taster Session

 

Nordic Walking Watford are hosting a FREE Nordic walking taster session on Saturday 12th January from 2pm – 2.45pm at Leavesden Park.

This 45 minute session will help you understand just how beneficial Nordic walking can be and how it is far more than just walking with poles!!

You will get a taste of how light you will feel on your feet, how the whole body is mobilised and why you need to take the time to learn the technique.

Sunday Walk and Talk

 

Sunday walk and talk are free monthly events and are informal, relaxed, inclusive and open to all, to create and provide a regular chance for people to meet others in the community in a different way; on a walk in nature.  Held monthly the next walk is Sunday 23rd December and always they meet at the Cha Cafe at 1pm for about a two hour walk.

In these Sunday walk and talk events you can enjoy exploring Cassiobury Park, local water canals, River Gade, Whippendell Forest, Nature Reserve or Grove Park Hotel grounds, whatever they have the time for.

You can pace yourself, stick around for half an hour or go all the way there is no agenda other than to enjoy conversations and other people’s company and get to know each other.  At these community events, you will find yourself in a friendly atmosphere with other local people.

They suggest you have a brunch or an early lunch, or take snacks and water with you. 


 

W3RT: Getting Together

 

Getting Together clubs are wellbeing clubs for people over 55 run by Watford & Three Rivers Trust.  They have a club that meet every Friday from 11.30am – 1.30pm at Horwood Court, Hill Rise Avenue, Watford.

Each club has a regular cycle of activities with things like:

“Up & Doing” activities which include seated exercise, yoga, dancing, carpet bowls, skittles, making bird boxes and arts and crafts.

“Club choice” is for members to agree on an activity everyone will enjoy, for example a local outing, a restaurant or a favourite activity.

Also there is an opportunity to share memories about  school days, work days and families.

Their clubs are free to attend but they do charge for some services.  They will also be introducing an attendance fee for each time you attend a club. This will be £1.00

Meriden Residents Association – Open Meeting

 

Our next Meriden Residents Association Open Meeting is Tuesday 12th February from 7pm – 9pm, at the Meriden Community Centre.

The doors open at 7pm for refreshments.  The meeting will run from 7.30pm – 9pm.

Topics include:

  • Chairman and Treasurer’s reports
  • Update on CCTV/general maintenance across the estate by Paul Marsh (WCH)
  • Update on the Meriden Development led by Danny O’Reilly (Mulalley) and
    Mary Robinson (WCH)
  • A short talk by Jeanette Aron from OWL (Online Watch Link – Neighbourhood Watch

At the end of the evening, there will be a free raffle into which all Meriden Residents who attend
the meeting will be entered. You do have to be present for the whole meeting to be included.

Rotary Club Watford – Santa and his Sleigh’s Christmas Tour Route

 

The Rotary Club Watford  Santa and his Sleigh’s Christmas tour has begun.  As always they look forward to meeting their supporters and receiving the kind generosity towards their many good causes.  The remaining dates for the street collections can be seen below.

Friday 14th – Leavesden Road, Victoria Road,  Cecil Street, Regent Street, Judge Street, Yarmouth Road, Bradshaw Road, Cromer Road, Bruce Grove, Hatfield Road, Salisbury Road.

Random Cafe

 

The Random Cafe is something really different for our town.  Their aim is to reduce food waste, and support our local community.

The Random Cafe is a pop up cafe, diverting food destined to be thrown away.  They hold regular cafes around Watford, using food donated by food establishments that would otherwise go to landfill.

On Saturday 15th December, the Random Cafe is being held at West Watford Community Centre, 15 Harwoods Road, Watford.

You can enjoy a coffee or tea, cake and other snacks whilst having a chat, and then do some shopping at their food boutique table.   All of their food is available on a pay-as-you-feel basis.

Please note: There is NO Random Cafe being held at the Meriden Community Centre next week, this is due to a shortage of volunteers.


 

Winter Birds

 

Stocker’s Lake is a haven for winter bird life as many escape the colder, northerly winters seeking respite within the relatively mild Colne Valley.  Hosted by the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust, Winter Birds is a child friendly event being held on Saturday 22nd December from 10.30am – 12pm at Stocker’s Lake Nature Reserve,  Rickmansworth Aquadrome, Rickmansworth.

You will be able to look for many winter species including fieldfares, goldeneye and siskin.  This event is suitable for beginners to bird watching.

Charity Gift Wrapping

 

Intu Watford have a charity gift wrapping station throughout December until Christmas Eve.  Volunteers on the desk will beautifully wrap your festive shopping and gifts in exchange for a small donation.

Each day Intu Watford are inviting national and local charities into the centre to raise money.  The desk will be open from 10am Monday-Saturday and 11am on Sundays, the desk will close just before the centre does.
