MRA Stall at the Meriden Community Centre August 17th 2018

We had a good time at Watford Community Sports & Education Trust’s event for the National Citizenship Service (NCS) which was held at Meriden Community Centre yesterday.

All set up, and ready to go

Lots of interest

Featuring the winner of our adult’s jar of sweets competition, Carole

As we had so many items donated (thank you), we ended up with three tables!

Congratulations to our raffle and competition winners, Neelam (signed football from Watford Football Club), Mary (1st prize teddy), Reece (2nd prize teddy), Carole (adult’s jar of sweets), Harley and Issac (children’s jar of sweets).

Thank you to all those of you that came along to support us.

We now look forward to our next event – watch this space!

Trip to Southend 2018

We all had a fantastic day trip to Southend.  We set off in three coaches, taking 162 residents with us. The weather was beautiful and we spent a lovely day on the beach, on the pier, walking along the prom, having fish & chips, ice cream, cups of tea and going into Sealife Adventure. Everyone said what a great day they had.

The MRA would like to thank our locally elected County Councillor, Kareen Hastrick, who funded one coach out of her County Council Locality Budget for Community Projects.  Thanks too to Sophie from Watford Community Housing who also helped secure funding for a second coach.  The MRA was able to fund the third coach plus entry into Sealife Adventure.  Receiving the funding made this trip possible for so many people.

Here are photos of some of the people that came on the trip and some of the animals/fish that we saw in Sealife.

“All aboard”

Very happy at the end of the day having spent a great day at Southend.

Mayor Peter Taylor

Peter Taylor, our newly elected mayor, chose the Meriden to host his first Listening to Watford event with local councillors on Saturday 8th July.  He will be doing events like this across Watford, listening to residents about how this can be an even better place to live and work.

Children’s Christmas Event

Our 2017 Children’s Christmas Event proved to be very successful indeed and we were pleased that we could put on this free event.

It was very well attended and enjoyed by all including children, parents, grandparents, helpers and even the entertainers said what a great party it was.

We had balloon modelling, face painting, nail varnishing, hair braiding, tombola, guess the number of sweets name the leopard, guess the weight of the sweets, a raffle, lucky dip, Christmas biscuit decorating, crafts etc which all went down a storm and Father Christmas was wonderful. We also provided a variety of complimentary refreshments.

All the children had lots of fun and went home very happy with at least one gift each, a specially modelled balloon plus any crafts that they did.

We are very grateful to the Meriden Community Centre for letting us use their large hall free of charge so that we could put on this very successful community event.

We are thankful for the twenty volunteers that worked hard to make sure the event went well including friends, family, the Hillside Residents Association Committee and the WCH team who supported us beforehand and during the party.

We very much appreciate the Co-op for donating mince pies, John & Sarah from Martins who donated sweets and ASDA who donated all the fairy cakes.

We are now all looking forward to our next event!

Here is your chance to join the committee!
